I imagine most visitors will be using Camp Prairie as a launching-off spot to go explore the beaches and forests to the North.  But if you have a lazy day to spend it can be pretty relaxing to just wander the neighborhood.  Singing Trees Nursery is a short walk North on Dow’s Prairie rd. and is a gorgeous retail nursery all laid out like a luxurious garden and featuring tons of native plants.  Just next door is where the goats responsible for Cyprus Grove Cheeses spend the day grazing.  This is a commercial site not set up for visitors but it’s still fun to watch the goats run around.  We continue to dream that they will open up a tasting room where we can sit out and eat cheese and drink wine… but not yet. Continue on up Dow’s Prairie Rd on foot or a bike and you will drop down a steep hill into the idyllic little Cranel Valley.  This isn’t a tourist spot or a place with activities… it’s just a really pretty place to walk.  Or turn left where Dow’s Prairie meets Cranel and instead of moving up the little valley you will hop over the freeway and find Clam Beach; miles of empty dunes, sea birds, sand dollars, and crashing waves.  You can make a loop of it if you walk all the way South on the Clam Beach frontage road and then climb back up to Camp Prairie by way of Clam Beach rd.

McKinleyville is about three miles away if you need any supplies or want to get a great meal at any of our local restaurants.

Safeway and Grocery Outlet offer up all the regular stuff but we also have Eureka Natural Foods which is one of our local treasures for organic and local groceries.
